Danville Middle School’s Green Team
Danville Middle School
Pollinator Garden: DCSM will continue to the work they began last school year on the garden with the goal to organize and give educational tours for elementary schools students.
Vegetable Garden: DCSM Garden Club will take over the care for the vegetable garden. The produce collected from the garden will continue to be donated to a local food bank.

Vegetable Garden: During the summer of 2021, HHS garden had to be removed in order to make space for temporary classrooms for the new elementary school, Herron Preparatory Academy. Funding will be used to rebuild the garden in a new part of campus.

Holy Angels Green Team.

Garden-Cultivating Community: Grant funding will purchase gardening tools, plants and benches for their nine outdoor garden boxes. The goal is to have their outdoor garden become a community garden with produce not only be eaten during school but also donated to a local food pantry. This project will also include composting from capturing food waste to assist with Holy Angels cafeteria becoming zero waste.

Let’s Get Baking: Indian Creek will be purchasing a baking oven to use for their green team to use to bake with vegetables they will be growing in the garden.
Let’s Get Composting: Vermicomposting will be introduced to the Indian Creek garden program.
Garden Upkeep: Maintaining a garden is just as important as building it. Funding will be used upgrade and maintain their expansive garden space.

Solar Powered Chargers: Classrooms are usually designed with only a few electrical outlets and it has become an issue as technology needs have expanded. Going solar will enable classes to no longer have power strips and electrical cords throughout the classroom.

Recycling Initiative: MHS will be initiating a new recycling program with hope to be done across their entire school, including creating videos for educational purposes

Northview Middle School’s Garden Club in action.

Paper recycling: Northview is looking to make it’s recycling more universal and easier for classes to recycle paper.
Garden Club: Funding will assist the Garden Club with planting, harvesting and composting.

Target Zero: A initiative to reduce food waste and introduce students to circular economy concepts though recycling, composting and food capturing program donating to Second Harvest Food Bank.
Garden Upkeep: Will assist with maintenance of their tower gardens to continue to produce food for before and after school care.

Southeast Neighborhood School of Excellence
Welcome to Nature: SENSE will be expanding it’s butterfly and pollinator garden from seed. Culmination with a school nature fair where classes will be able to celebrate nature and learn about their surroundings.
Where Does Our Food Come From: Expansion of their eco-library with books focused on nutrition, sustainability practices in farming, plights of farmers and more. Utilizing SENSE’s food garden as a hands on learning lab.

TGNS Goes Green: Third graders will become recycling ambassadors, teaching and implementing a school wide recycling program.
Pollinator Garden: The Wilderness Adventure Club will choose a portion of green space on the school grounds to plant and care for a pollinator garden.

Green Team Leadership Development: Two leadership groups will have different roles in hands-on learning opportunities and implementing circular practices through their cafeteria, chicken farm and garden all while teaching other students. Students will fully be in charge of creating lesson plans for other grade levels and facilitating care for garden area.
